About Aquadart

AquaDart ballistic-sinkers were invented by an Irish angler and are designed and assembled in Ireland. The idea of a self-orientating, enhanced versatility hydrodynamically efficient sinker was the product of many years of experience fishing in the challenging conditions of the North Atlantic.

The initial prototypes were homemade and and extensively tested to prove the concept. The idea was initially conceived when the superior lateral drift characteristic of cannon ball sinkers were noted when fishing for halibut in the deep waters of the Faroe Islands. Although inferior in the vertical descent and ascent phases, cannon ball sinkers present less lateral surface area that conventional streamlined torpedo shaped sinkers for any given weight. The AquaDart presents a frontal surface area that is approximately 5 times less than a cannon ball sinker, resulting in superior performance during the descent/ascent and later drift phases. The versatility of the AquaDart allows attachments directly to the weight, which can also be used for low speed trolling and casting.

The primary loop connector is located above the center of gravity of the weigh and is angled to minimise the snap-link swivel drag and to allow the sinker to be fished line through or running leader style. The tipping action of the sinker, when encountering snags, may result in fewer losses on rough seabeds. This can be improved with the use of a breakaway attachment on the primary loop connector allowing the sinker to be retrieved by the main attachment point on the secondary loop connector.

Happy fishing!
